    Abstract

    Extract of Mangosteen pericarp (p-mangosteen) and Phycocianin (C-Pc) are sources of natural antioxidant that given protective effect from oxidative stress. Acute exercise can induced oxidative stress while accumulation Malonaldialdehyd (MDA) level widely used as an indication for oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the protective effect of combination extract on acute exercise-induced oxidative stress by determination the decrease of plasma MDA Level. Thirty male wistar rats were divided into five group which consisted two group control (aquadest and Vitamin C) and three treatment group : I (7.6 C-Pc mg/Kg BW), II (9.17 Mangosteen + 3.8 C-Pc m/kg BB), III (9.17 mangosteen + 7.6 C-Pc mg/Kg BW) and IV (9.17mangosteen + 15.2C-Pc mg/Kg BW). After seven days treatment all group was conducted with acute swimming exercise to induce the accumulation of MDA. Plasma MDA levels were measured as Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substance using spectrophotometric approach. The results of plasma MDA level in control group was found to be 2.764±0.284 and 0,839±0.156 (aquadest and Vitamin C respectively) whereas it was 1.585±0.186, 1.324±0.559, 1.149±0.145, 0.910±0.115 in group I,II,III, IV respectively. There was statistically significant decrease in treatment group compared with control. These result explained that combination extract of C-Pc and p-mangosteen have protective effect against acute exercise-induced stress oxidative and may be useful in the prevention of cancer and degenerative desease.
