DISKRIMINASI UPAH PEKERJA BERDASARKAN GENDER DI KABUPATEN BANYUASIN(ANALISIS DATA SAKERNAS 2009)

Abstract

This study aims to analyzed the gender wagedifferentialsin the formal and informal
sector in the Kabupaten Banyuasin and also to determine whether the differentials in wage is
due to wage discrimination in addition to differentials in endowments of workers. The
endowments factors are used in this study are human capital, socio-demographic, residential,
business field, job type, hours of work and place of work.
This study uses data from Sakernas Kabupaten Banyuasin in 2009 that the population
of workers in both formal and informal sector is around 79.491 workers. Methods of analysis
used to determine the cause of the differences in payment between men and women are
Blinder-Oaxaca method whereas to estimate the parameters used the modified Mincer
regression equation.
The results of Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition analysis proved that there are
differentials in endowments factor and wage discrimination that caused the differentials in
wages between men and women in formal and informal sectors in the Kabupaten Banyuasin.
These results also show that wage discrimination factor is the dominant factor in influencing
the wage differentials between men and women workers compared with the differentials in
labor endowments.
